Roger Harty(1829-1903) married Elizabeth
Sommers(1850-1914) in the year 1868. Roger and Elizabeth lived and worked
on their farm in Doon, Ballybunion. They had ten children. In 1857 Roger
bought a licensed public house and grocery in the village of Ballybunion.
Roger's eldest daughter Mary Ann took over the running of the public house and grocery shop. She married Jack Costello from Fort William, Abbeydorney on the 9th July 1898 and so the Harty- Costello name was established.
On the 5th of March 1900 their first child Gabriella was born. Two sons Roger and Andrew, and two more daughters Lilly Francis and Myra were born to them.
And the Harty Costello story continues today........
